Welcome to Harbor Beach

WELCOME TO HARBOR BEACH FROM THE MAYOR

I would like to extend to you a very warm and friendly welcome to the City of Harbor Beach on behalf of the residents, local businesses, the City Council, and myself.

The People of Harbor Beach cherish the small town atmosphere, but do enjoy living in one of the most progressive communities in the “Thumb Area”. The City has a manufacturing base, agricultural setting and strong tourist factor. Many people came to Harbor Beach and decided to establish a new residence, either a vacation home or a retirement dwelling.

Whether you arrive in Harbor Beach by automobile or boat, you will encounter a friendly atmosphere in the local stores or with the individuals you meet on the street. The citizens are proud of their six scenic parks, two historical museums, churches, community library, and theater.

For those who are so inclined, Harbor Beach has a first rate campground located within 142 wooded acres.

Next to the campground, we have two beautiful softball diamonds located at Bruce Johnson’s Field.

Within walking distance of the business district, is the 114-slip marina for dockage of seasonal or transient boats. The marina has six launch pads for the occasional boater who trailers his craft.

A bicycle/walking path connects the campground, marina, and business district.

The world’s largest freshwater man-made harbor provides great fishing opportunities from a boat, fishing pier, break wall, or charter service.

Harbor Beach has a competent hospital that offers 24-hour Emergency Room services with immediate and professional care. Outpatient services include: Diagnostic Imaging, Cardiopulmonary, Physical Therapy, and a full-service laboratory. Our facility has on-site, a Long Term Care Unit for 40 extended care patients, along with a 15-Bed Acute Care Unit, both with 24-hour skilled nursing care for medical and surgical specialties, geriatric, and pediatric care. We also have 4 Family Medicare and 4 Internal Medicine Physicians. Harbor Beach has a responsive ambulance service.

Along with our hospital we have a great Fire Department. The Harbor Beach Area Fire Department (I.S.O rating of 5) is a volunteer Fire Department with 21 members. Our Department has six vehicles that consist of: 2 pumpers, 1 tanker, 1 rescue, 1-95 ladder truck and 1 grass truck. The Fire Department also has a 26 ft. trailer for Hazmat-Decon that covers the city and county along with rescue diving.

Our Police Department has around the clock service, seven days a week with four full-time officers and five part-time officers.

Our historic business district offers a great opportunity for leisurely shopping or dining, along with motels and bed and breakfast inns.

We have 9 churches within the city to offer a wide range of Christian beliefs.

Harbor Beach has three schools consisting of: Our Lady of Lake Huron Catholic School, which has preschool to 8th grade, Zion Lutheran School which has preschool to 8th grade, and Harbor Beach Community Schools which has kindergarten to 12th grade.

Some of the many organizations available at Harbor Beach are: Chamber of Commerce, Rotary Club, Lions Club, Knights of Columbus, American Legion Post, V.F.W. Post, Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, etc.

In our Industrial park area, we have many available acres for new industry.

Few places offer so much to the traveler so that they might enjoy their stay. Please stop by our hometown. You will like it, and it might even become your hometown.
