About Harbor Beach

Harbor Beach is truly a small town, with a small town atmosphere.  We are fortunate to have a solid manufacturing base, a strong tourist presence, and a multi-generational agricultural industry in the area.

When you arrive in Harbor Beach you will notice a friendly atmosphere. We are all proud of our 5 well maintained parks, two museums, a community center which includes a library and large digital theater used for concerts, plays and first run movies.

The City’s water treatment plant produces drinking water daily for the City of Harbor Beach and over 40 miles of shoreline residents.  The waste water treatment plant not only provides service to city residents, but also has more than enough capacity to service our local industrial waste load.

Harbor Beach has a community hospital that offers 24-hour Emergency Room services with immediate and professional care, by on-site physicians. Harbor Beach Community Hospital has been named to the top 20 Critical Access Hospitals by the National Rural Health Association.  The hospital provides Outpatient Services that include: Diagnostic Imaging, Cardiopulmonary, Physical, and Occupational Therapy, surgical services, and a full laboratory. Our facility has an Extended Care Unit, and Rehab Unit for thirty five patients along with a fifteen bed acute care unit; both provide twenty-four hour skilled nursing care for medical and surgical specialties and geriatric care. The hospital also operates two medical clinics, one in Harbor Beach, the other in Port Hope. The clinics employ Family Medicine and Internal Medicine Physicians. In addition to the clinics, the hospital offers a Walk-In Clinic, which is open seven days a week.

The Harbor Beach Area Fire and Police Departments offer residents security.  The fire department has 21 volunteer members, and has an I.S.O. rating of five which affords Harbor Beach residents the lowest possible homeowner insurance rates available.  The police department is manned 24/7 with four full-time officers and five part-time officers.

The beautiful downtown shopping district, with a street scape completed in 2004 offers an enticing opportunity for leisurely shopping and dining along with bed and breakfast inns and a motel.

There are eight churches within the city with a wide range of Christian beliefs. In addition, Harbor Beach has three schools consisting of Harbor Beach Community School, Our Lady of Lake Huron Catholic School and Zion Lutheran School.

Many organizations are active in Harbor Beach including the Chamber of Commerce, Rotary Club, Lions Club, Knights of Columbus, American Legion, V.F.W., Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, etc.
